The Surroundings

Gameren is an idyllic  little village under  the municipality of Zaltbommel where old farmhouses have a prominent place.

The broad and accessible river forelands

provide an opportunity to enjoy the lively river Waal, surrounded by a unique varying landscape with its many small beaches and impressive slow moving ships.

Back in the 14th century

’s Hertogenbosch

A city to visit

Slot Loevestein

Back in the time of the knights

Zaltbommel is a beautiful old fortified town with many monumental buildings and attractions such as amongst others; the St Maartenkerk and the Stadskasteel where the antiquities of the former inhabitant Maarten van Rossum are shown. The Jip & Janneke Museum is also housed in the Stadskasteel. With also drawings by Fiep Westendorp who lived in Zaltbommel for years.

The Burgundian city of 's Hertogenbosch is located a few kilometers from Gameren. It has many antiquities and cultural attractions. But it is also a nice city where you can shop, grab a drink and eat in one of the many restaurants or cafes.

At the very edge of the Bommelerwaard, about 15 kilometers from our B & B is the beautiful Slot Loevestein, where the rich history of Hugo de  Grootte is still tangible. When you enter the Fort you feel like you are back in the 14th century.

In addition to Slot Loevestein the Bommelerwaard has a wealth of castles; the Stadskasteel, Castle Ammersoyen, the Castle in Well and the castle on the 'island' Nederhemert-Zuid.

After a day cycling along the Waal we settled in B & B Het Bommels Dijkhuis. The reception was warm. Just what you need then. Neat, new rooms with comfortable beds and beautiful showers. After a good night's rest and a delicious breakfast, we went back to the bike. This B & B is highly recommended! Especially for cycling the Netherlands.
